I stay away from the "this is what I'm going to do this month" posts as well. For some folks I'm sure it works out, but for me it usually leads to some kind of disappointment.
I guess it comes down to if they follow through, but hadn't told me about it beforehand it wouldn't add or diminish from the excitement. In some sense I enjoy the surprise more. However, if they don't follow through it only works against them.
