We’re on the last month of the year and fully within holiday season. Due to how the weekly schedule works this should be appearing in subscribers’ inboxes at the same time as the next chapter of Battles Beneath the Stars.
Recap of Last Month
The second story of Battles Beneath the Stars, Hákon’s, has come to a close. Hákon is a character I wanted to write about for a while so I liked having that chance. Instead of linking each chapter from last month, I’ll point you to the table of contents, so if you missed a chapter you can find it there. There’s also a thread for which stories you want to see next.
In terms of nonfiction this month was a bit eventful. I had planned on another Smash Bros article for November, then I learned Fate Grand Order’s story chapter dealing with Aztec mythology was coming out on December. Since I had been working on a post about Fate Grand Order and Aztec mythology I wanted to get it out before that part of the game released and the workload for it increased, especially since my intent is to avoid that chapter of the game’s story as much as possible.
I don’t like being negative about things, so I’m glad that I have a section dedicated to talking about things I like. For this month Disney Villainous was the subject of praise. I’m hoping that I’ll have a chance to play it this month.
Leaving the third Tuesday open worked for me, because I filled it with a cross-promotion with
, where we did a mutual interview. I’m going to look for more cross-promotions in the future, this one was fun.Plans for this month
Battles Beneath the Stars will cover Aris’s story for all of the next month, starting with today’s other post. Aris is the first featured character who isn’t a dragon, and his story will feature some unexpected appearances.
The Smash Bros article I said would go up last month should go up this month, unless another thing happens to shove it down the line again. And I’ll be rambling about another Nintendo game, though unlike Code Name Steam this one at least has a sequel.
One thing I’m contemplating is setting certain dates to use the cross-post feature, which lets me send a post from another substack to subscribers. That way I can share a glimpse at some substacks that I enjoy. However, I want to stick to a schedule to avoid flooding inboxes. A poll feels appropriate for getting a read of the room on this.
As a closing note I’d like to remind readers about the Warthog Report discord. I’ll be putting some more effort into promoting it going forward, ideally without getting annoying, just something like this once or twice a month.
Substack might have its chat feature, but it’s not what I’m looking for. The chats feel too author focused by nature, where the writer gives a call and readers give a response, the exact dynamic comment sections and threads already have.
Meanwhile a discord server can be a place for readers to discuss whatever part of the newsletter they feel like at the moment, rather than what I choose to make a discussion topic. And it lets readers discuss the entirety of Battles Beneath the Stars without having to jump between comment sections.
And that’s all for this post. Until next time.
Thanks again, Will!
I like the cross posts as it gives me an opportunity to see a creator that I would not have stumbled upon otherwise In the sea of algorithms
