Welcome to the Monthly Report feature of the Warthog Report, where I go over what I published here in the past month and plans for the current month.
I’m going to start off with the big announcement here. A short story will be released in the ‘Misc Fiction’ section on November 21st, “A Marriage of Body and Soul.”
The outcast demon summoner Simon has finally achieved his dream of summoning Beleth, the demon he has obsessed over since childhood.
But summoning a demon is one challenge, building a relationship with a demon is another, a challenge Simon may have neglected to prepare for in his single minded pursuit. And Beleth has his own dreams.
I’m eagerly looking forward to the publication date so I can speak more openly about the contents of the story and its characters. I want people to experience it for themselves before I go on about the themes and the story’s relationship to Beauty and the Beast as well as my other writing.
Also if you check your calendar you’ll see that November 21st is a Thursday, the same as Battles Beneath the Stars updates. This will also serve as something to read between the different stories of Battles Beneath the Stars, giving me space to both write something else as a break and take more time in preparing the next part.
Recap of Last Month
Metrophanes’s story came to a conclusion just yesterday. At a loss for what to say about how I feel, so I’ll simply remind you that voting for the next protagonist begins next week. And that I’d appreciate hearing what people thought of the story.
Metrophanes: It’s too late to leave this tournament, but win or lose this will be my last battle in any tournament. Vulture Shah, will you fight alongside me in the grand finals?
Vulture Shah: I will.
Metrophanes: Then it’s time to bring this to an end.
In light of the recent announcement of the game’s second expansion, this section remains relevant and also the funniest, least representative part of the post.
Where the fuck is Lilo? The movie is Lilo and Stitch, stop separating them and only adding Stitch while we have pretty much the entire main Frozen and Lion King cast and also Nala. Lilo would fit right in both thematically with the game’s narrative about forgotten memories and in terms of fun character interactions.
If I had more time I would have added Persona 3 to the honorable mentions section, Persona 3 as in the game with AI party members who get tired if you push them too hard, that dealt out an actual consequential punishment for getting caught cheating on your girlfriend or just being a bad friend. It also fits the theme of my ideas being actively niche and difficult to make.
So in addition to saying what I’d want to mimic about the inspiration games, I’m also going to try and list off ideas for how to make a successor actually distinct from the original. Because I want to see something new built off of these games rather than an empty appeal to my nostalgia, I want to go somewhere new, if I wanted to return I’d replay the originals.
That is all for now. Thank for you reading.
