Wow. This raises a lot of questions that I'm no gonna worry about but also have you read The Sandman? This reminds me a bit of the At The World's End arc.
The phrasing of The Crossroads as being 'back stage' was inspired by American Gods, which was also written by Neil Gaiman, so while I haven't read The Sandman I'm guessing there was probably some conceptual overlap/similarity between those parts of The Sandman and American Gods.
Also this isn't canon so you're right not to worry.
