Hello, and welcome to the Warthog Report.
Profiling and Voting
After quite some work, I have finally made and posted the profiles for each ‘playable’ character in Battles Beneath the Star. My main influence for this was the museum mode found in Soulcalibur, so its a bit lengthy.
For some characters it was hard to condense their entire history. I tried to make it so that some things can only be fully understood by reading multiple profiles, like the Bloody Day.
Now that the profiles can no longer sidetrack me, I can focus more on the character stories. But, there was a reason I wanted to get the profiles out before finishing Aodh’s story.
I might have mentioned this before, but at the end of each character story there will be a poll where you can vote for which character story comes next. The profiles help make a pitch for every character to become the main character.
More posting
Starting this month, I’ll be adding another section to the Warthog Report. This will be dedicated to me talking about things I like that I feel are either niche or not appreciated enough.
While the blog posts are more semi-formal arguments, this new section is about introducing things to people. They might even cover the same works, like an introduction to a video game series being followed by a blog post about how a new game in that series could build upon its predecessors.
Similar to the blog posts, I’d like to make this monthly, but no promises. Potential subjects include: two sagas in the same book, a series of novels that run parallel to a series of video games, a steampunk video game where public domain characters fight aliens from the works of Lovecraft, and more.
Interesting Things
I’d like to end this report by sharing some stuff other people are doing online, and maybe making a habit of ending each monthly report this way.
Hiding in Private has a video series dedicated to analyzing the entirety of Persona 4: Golden. While most analysis about the Persona series only covers the mythological and tarot symbolism, this focuses more on the plot and characterization, with a video for each major character and other aspects of the game. I haven’t watched all of his videos, but I’ve appreciated the ones that I have.
Guile Win Quote makes videos about lesser known fighting games and fighting game adjacent things, and is one of the inspirations/models for the new section. I still need to get around to trying Dark Awake.
Thank you for reading this post. Now, how about you reader? What is something you like that you wish more people knew or talked about?
