The hiatus is now officially over. And I picked the right month to go on hiatus, July was busy and did not leave much time to write. I was hoping it’d be the month I finally do all the other writing projects, like the Aodh and Fintan short story, but taking time away from writing was probably the most fruitful thing I could have done. Now I feel ready to go back in, even though there’s still other things to do pressing up against me.
There’s nothing to recap or share from last month, so I’ll focus on what’s ahead. The winner of the next protagonist vote for Battles Beneath the Stars was Metrophanes, so his story will start this month. And I have something different in tone on the non-fiction side later this month, already written and sealed until the date.
Now would be a good time to drop some big changes to how things are run here, but I don’t have any in mind. Maybe experiment with having a bit of an introduction to the serial chapters at least. I have wondered a little about a name change, but nobody has actually said that they think the Warthog Report sounds too much like news.
I know I’m not doing things the most marketable way, but I’ve developed a strongly averse reaction to decisions justified in the name of a fabled wider audience and I’m not inflicting that upon my own work. Any new way of doing things here needs to actually appeal to me as a writer, not in terms of potential popularity.
Thankfully thinking of how to promote some projects like the Aodh and Fintan story in a way that’s fun and engaging has led to some ideas. But like the story itself it may take some time for them all to manifest.
That’s all for now. You’ll see more from me soon.
Good to have you back :)
Very glad to have you back, though I confess that Substack seems to have unsubscribed me too! It did strike me as odd that I hadn't seen any of your posts in my emails...
