For this month the Warthog Report will be on hiatus. It’s good to take breaks, and I hear summer months are slow in general for newsletters. Writing is fun for me so I’ll likely do it even on this break, but I’ll be free not to without a fear of imminent deadlines. And if I do creative projects I have more freedom to make it things that might not end up here.
However, there is something I’d like to set up for this month. I like the open sharing of stories, by which I mean less putting things up for free (though obviously I do that too) and more fanfic or crossovers, letting other people tell stories with my settings and characters. I’ve always wanted to mimic things like how Lovecraft and his circle built off each other’s work.
So I’d like to especially invite that sort of indirect collaboration with an event of sorts. To participate all you need to do is make a creative work building off one of my own, and share it with me during this month. Then I’ll share it here at the start of next month.
Note the intentionally vague wording, it doesn’t have to be prose, it could be other creative mediums like artwork. I’m also not strict about what I mean by ‘build off of.’ You could go as direct as pretty much writing fanfic or simply borrow the name of a fictional deity. This is a minimum rules event, you just need something that clearly traces back to my work.
To submit either post the work somewhere you usually share things and point me towards it, or if you want to be more private you could email me and I’ll share it with whatever attribution you request. This may not lead to anything, but I still want to open the door with an active invitation.
That’s all for now. I’ll see you next month.
Thank you and enjoy your break!
